Interval Training
iNterval Training
Interval Training is an aerobic exercise technique where you intersperse intense exercise with rest periods. They are a fixed number of repeated periods with a fixed distance/time with a fixed recovery period. For instance, you might do a 35 minute run like the following.
- 5 minutes warmup
- 10 minutes intense
- 5 minutes rest
- 10 minutes intense
- 5 minutes cooldown
The idea behind intervals are that they
allow you to exercise more
intensely than you would have had you done the workout at a continuous
pace. Intervals also train your body to more efficiently deal with
lactic acid buildup.
iNtervalTunes - the iPhone/iPod touch App.
that I am selling at 99 cents, helps facilitate these workouts by
letting you add songs appropriate to the interval.
Whether a novice or professional athlete,
experts agree intervals
give you the biggest bang for your exercise buck. But don't take my
word for it. Here are some links discussing interval training
